Miami bound and down

Happy 2016 to you! Greg Humphreys Electric Trio (myself, bassist Matt Brandau, drummer Keith Robinson) is headed to Miami FL to play an afternoon set at Virginia Key Grassroots Festival on Saturday, February 20. Escape winter and join us! The lineup of performers is fantastic. Tickets and information here.

The new Electric Trio LP is done — tracked with John Plymale, mixed by Keith Robinson, and mastered by Greg Calbi. We are happy with the way it sounds. Still plotting a release and tour; more on that as it develops.

Back in NYC after a few months of extended travel with my family. I did sneak in a couple of shows while in Chiang Mai and Bangkok, Thailand, thanks to Joe Cummings and David Burris. My pick-up bands were great. Thank you Nicky Scott, George Martin, Björn Morén, Joe, Cameron Cooper, and Jerry Kelley! The crowds at Papa Rock and Fatty's Bar were a lot of fun. I've gotta say, it was a thrill for me to rock the house halfway around the world.

Our packed Dillon Fence show in December at the Visulite Theatre was a homecoming to remember for Kent Alphin, Chris Goode, Scott Carle and me. Our original drummer Brooke Pitts sat in on one of our earliest tunes, Kent's "Baby On Board." HOBEX bassist Andy Ware and Hootie guitarist Mark Bryan joined us to back Chris on vox for a raucous version of "Ziggy Stardust". It was the first time we had played the song in over twenty years — three weeks before David Bowie's unexpected passing. Uncanny. Dan Wuori posted quite a few more YouTube vids of complete songs from the show, if you missed it and would like to hear some faves. Thank you to everyone who came! Fence fans: we will be releasing some new tunes this year, so keep an eye out for the news.
More soon,
Greg

Cosmic Irony is a studio collaboration between producer / bassist Matt Brandau and me. We've been recording together on-and-off at his Upper West Side studio Chateau Brandau since I've been living in the city. These are our funky creations.

The first tune, "Crosstown", is a song we built around a Brandau bassline, with horns from Memphis saxophonist Art Edmaiston (Lucero, Gregg Allman Band, JJ Grey and MOFRO) and trumpeter Dennis Marion (JJ Grey and MOFRO). On "Cosmic Irony" we take a Latin trip down Existential Lane. "All Because of You" is pure pop and "More Than a Friend" is a downtown love song. Enjoy.

"Cosmic Irony spotlights Humphreys and company in a studio setting, focusing on concise songs that emphasize his jazzier inclinations and penchant for brisk, breezy melodies..." — Lee Zimmerman, No Depression
